Asbestos regulations

Here are a few facts on how asbestos contractors must work with asbestos and on the strict guidelines they must work to when handling and removing asbestos safely:
• Any exposure to asbestos of employees should be sporadic and of low intensity and in accordance with the strict safety measures.
• It should be clear from the asbestos risk assessment that the exposure to asbestos of any employee will not exceed the control limit.
• The work must involve short, non-continuous maintenance activities in which only non-friable materials are handled.
• Any asbestos removal must be made without deterioration of non-degraded materials in which the asbestos fibres are firmly linked in a matrix, or encapsulation or sealing of asbestos-containing materials which are in good condition.
•Asbestos disposal must be conducted while monitoring the breathable air, and the collection and analysis of samples to ascertain whether a specific material contains asbestos.
Beware, asbestos surveys, air monitoring and the disposal of any dangerous materials should be executed only by licensed and authorised consultants.
